Dinosaur Plateau

In Turkmenistan’s far east, where the Koýtendag mountains rise toward the Uzbek border, a vast limestone slab tilts skyward — and across it march the fossilised footprints of dinosaurs that walked here some 150 million years ago.

Hundreds of tracks form one of the largest and best-preserved trackways in the world. The plateau lies within the wild Koýtendag Nature Reserve, a land of canyons, karst caves and the Umbardere waterfall.
