The consular visa fee (approximately $99) is paid on arrival and is not included in tour prices.

Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–November) are ideal, with warm days and cool nights. Summer can be very hot in the desert; winter is cold but clear and atmospheric, especially at Darvaza.

There is no online checkout. Every journey is private and tailored, so we quote on request. Send an enquiry (or message us on WhatsApp) and a specialist replies within 24 hours with a tailored plan and indicative pricing. A deposit secures your dates once you are happy.

How far in advance should I start the visa process?

Aim to start at least 4–6 weeks before travel. The invitation itself takes about 10–20 business days to approve, and we need your passport details ahead of time.

Is there a visa on arrival or an e-visa without an invitation?

Accepted Answer

Visa on arrival is available at Ashgabat airport — but only if your Letter of Invitation has already been approved. There is no independent e-visa or visa without an invitation.

Can I travel independently, or is a guided tour required?

Tourist visas are issued to travellers booked with a licensed operator, so independent, unguided tourism isn’t permitted. Your journey with us includes a guide and driver throughout.

Do children need their own visa?

Yes — every traveller needs a visa, including children. Children travelling on a parent’s passport are included in that passport’s application. We handle the paperwork for the whole party.

Can I pay by card, or should I bring cash?

Accepted Answer

Bring cash. Turkmenistan runs largely on cash, bank cards are rarely accepted and ATMs are scarce. Clean US dollars in small denominations (issued after 2006) are easiest to exchange.

Will my phone and the internet work in Turkmenistan?

A local SIM (TMCELL) gives basic mobile data, but the internet is slow and heavily restricted, and many apps — including WhatsApp — are unreliable. Download maps and translators before you arrive; we stay in touch with you throughout.

Drink bottled water rather than tap water. We provide bottled water throughout your tour.

Can I bring a drone or photograph freely?

Drones aren’t allowed without special permission, and you shouldn’t photograph government buildings, military sites or border areas. Personal photography is otherwise fine — just ask before photographing people. Your guide will advise on the spot.

Yes — bring what you need, along with a doctor’s note or prescription, as pharmacies stock a limited range and some common medicines may be restricted.

Yes. Turkmenistan is very safe, and because you travel with a licensed guide and driver, it’s comfortable for solo female travellers. Modest dress is appreciated, especially at religious sites.
