Land of the Akhal-Teke
Land of the Akhal-Teke
The Akhal-Teke is one of the oldest and most beautiful horse breeds on earth — lean, tireless and famous for a metallic sheen that turns its coat to gold in the sun. In Turkmenistan it is a national symbol, and this six-day journey is built around meeting these remarkable animals where they are bred and celebrated.
You visit the state stud farms and the Ashgabat hippodrome, learn the bloodlines and traditions from the horsemen who keep them, and (for riders) take gentle outings on the plain beneath the Kopetdag. Around the horses, the trip weaves in the capital’s marble grandeur, the Parthian ruins of Nisa and the mountain village of Nohur.
A premium private itinerary for up to eight guests. Riding is optional and matched to your level; non-riders enjoy the farms, shows and scenery just the same.
