About Gökdepe Mosque

Beside the historic battlefield of Geok Tepe, 45 kilometres west of Ashgabat, rises the Saparmyrat Hajji Mosque — a calm monument in white marble and soft blue domes, built in memory of those who fell in the siege of 1881.

One of the country’s largest mosques, it is both a working place of worship and a national memorial. Many travellers pair it with the adjacent battle museum on the road west toward Kow-Ata and Nisa.
