Darvaza — Gates of Hell
Darvaza — Gates of Hell
If you have only a few days, this is the trip that delivers Turkmenistan’s single most unforgettable sight — the Darvaza gas crater, a fifty-metre pit of fire burning in the middle of the Karakum desert. By night, camped at its edge, the glow is unlike anything else on earth.
The five days are paced so the desert is the climax, framed by the marble capital, the Parthian ruins of Nisa and a swim in the warm underground lake of Kow-Ata. It is short, dramatic and endlessly photogenic — the essence of the country in a long weekend.
A premium private trip for up to eight guests, with a comfortable desert camp, an expert guide and 4x4 transport across the sands.
